Build a footwear product passport
Material labelling of uppers, linings and soles today, and preparation for the ESPR textiles and footwear act.
DPP Shield editorial team · Updated:
Footwear sits with textiles in the ESPR working plan, with no passport act adopted yet. What applies today is Directive 94/11/EC on labelling the materials of the upper, the lining and sock, and the outsole; DPP Shield's footwear pack checks those materials and substances of concern.
What applies today
Directive 94/11/EC requires the materials of the upper, the lining and sock, and the outsole to be labelled. The ESPR passport for footwear depends on the textiles and footwear delegated act, which is not yet adopted.
What the pack checks
DPP Shield validates a passport against the bundled EU-FOOTWEAR pack, which is a draft readiness pack, plus the ESPR core checks every category shares: identifiers, the economic operator, the data carrier, substances of concern and passport availability. Required findings block publication; findings to check are flagged for review. Each finding in the console names its rule and source.
Required - blocks publication
- The material of the upper.
- SVHC information above 0.1 % w/w.
What it flags for review
These do not block publication, but resolve each one before the passport goes public.
Check - flagged for review
- Manufacturer identity.
- The material of the lining and sock.
- The material of the outsole.
Evidence to collect
Attach these in Documents and link them to the passport, or request them from suppliers.
Typical evidence
- Material declarations per component from your factories.
- SVHC declarations for leather, adhesives and soles.
- Recycled-content evidence where claimed.
- Care instructions.
Build the passport step by step
- Create the product with the category Footwear - in Products, by CSV import or from a connected store.
- Open DPPs and choose Create passport: the form shows the footwear fields together with the shared blocks (identifiers, manufacturer, materials, substances of concern, data carrier and passport availability).
- Record the footwear type, size system and size.
- Enter the predominant material of the upper, the lining and sock, and the outsole as labelled.
- Add recycled content only with evidence behind it.
- Attach the evidence in Documents and send supplier requests for anything you cannot support yourself.
- Run Validate EU and work through the findings until no required finding is left.
- Preview the public page, redact commercially sensitive fields, then publish.
Before you publish
Because the bundled packs are drafts, publishing needs an accountable override approved by a second owner or administrator until your platform operator activates a legally reviewed pack. The readiness score is not a legal assessment: confirm the obligations that apply to your product with your compliance adviser.
When the textiles and footwear delegated act is adopted, the pack will follow it; the material data you record now carries over.
