Import bills of materials from PLM: Teamcenter, Windchill, 3DEXPERIENCE
Keep each product's component structure in step with your PLM's single-level BOM export, and link components to their own passports.
DPP Shield editorial team · Updated:
Export a single-level bill of materials from Teamcenter, Windchill, 3DEXPERIENCE or any PLM as CSV, start a mapping from the PLM BOM template, match the column names, then preview and apply. Each run keeps the components of every parent in the file in step, links components that have passports and leaves hand-entered components alone.
What a BOM mapping does
A BOM mapping reads one component line per record: the parent part, the component part, its name, find number, quantity and mass. For every parent in the file it adds, updates or removes the component lines it created earlier, so the product's structure matches the PLM after each run. Components entered by hand are never touched, and a line that would make a product its own component is refused.
When a component's part number belongs to a product that has a passport, the line is linked to that component passport; other lines are kept as structure only. The structure appears under the passport's Components, and each line's visibility decides whether it shows publicly.
Prepare the export
Export a single-level BOM - one line per component, not an indented multi-level report - as CSV. The template expects the columns Parent Number, Component Number, Component Name, Find Number, Quantity and Mass (kg). Rename the columns in your report, or change the rule sources to match it.
Part numbers are the key. The parent's part number must be the product's SKU (or its GTIN if you key on GTIN), and a component is linked only when its part number is another product's SKU.
Set it up
- Open Integration hub, choose New mapping and start from PLM single-level BOM (CSV).
- Check the key (Parent Number) and the rules for component name, part, line, quantity and mass.
- If your report gives the mass in grams, set the scale of the mass rule to 0.001.
- Upload the export, or set a feed such as sftp://<user>@<host>/exports/bom.csv with the server's host key pinned.
- Run a preview: per parent, it shows the lines that would be added, changed or removed.
- Apply, then schedule the feed daily after the PLM's nightly export.
Good practice
Run the BOM after the ERP or PIM mapping, so the parents exist and carry the right SKUs. Keep one mapping per PLM export: a run only replaces the lines its own mapping created, so two mappings feeding the same parent would each keep their own lines.
