Sync products with Shopify and WooCommerce

Connect a store, import or export products, choose an automatic sync direction and show passport links on product pages.

DPP Shield editorial team · Updated:

Under Products, Shopify / WooCommerce, an owner or administrator connects the store; editors then import store products into the catalogue or export catalogue products to the store. A daily sync can keep linked products in step in one direction, and published passport links are written back to the store for the product page.

Connect a Shopify store

Enter the store address. In Shopify admin, create an app for the store with the read_products and write_products Admin API scopes and install it, then paste its Admin API access token - or the app's client ID and secret if it was created in the Dev Dashboard. Where the DPP Shield Shopify app is offered, Connect automatically installs it instead and adds instant updates.

The credentials are checked against the store before they are saved, stored encrypted and never shown again.

Connect a WooCommerce store

Choose Connect automatically: you are sent to your store, sign in to WordPress as an administrator and approve DPP Shield, and WooCommerce hands DPP Shield an API key. The store must use HTTPS. To connect by hand instead, create a key with Read/Write permission under WooCommerce, Settings, Advanced, REST API, and paste the consumer key and secret.

Import store products

An import takes the title, SKU, barcode, vendor, description (up to 2,000 characters) and main image. A product without a SKU gets one derived from its store ID, and a barcode becomes the GTIN only if its check digit is valid. Importing creates catalogue products only: create their passports afterwards, one by one or in bulk.

  1. Open the store's Import tab and load its products; the 5,000 most recently updated are listed.
  2. Read each product's state: already linked, matching an existing product by SKU or GTIN (it will be linked, not duplicated), new, or not importable - for example without a title.
  3. Choose a category for new products that have none, and the workspace they belong to.
  4. Select the products - Select all that fit my plan stops at your plan's product limit - and import.

Export catalogue products

The Export tab sends catalogue products to the store: name, SKU, GTIN as barcode, brand as vendor, description and image. A product already in the store is updated and linked; a new one is created - as a draft in Shopify - so nothing goes on sale by accident.

Automatic sync and instant updates

Each store has an automatic daily sync of linked products: off, store to catalogue (the store is the source of truth) or catalogue to store (the catalogue is). An automatic sync only updates products that are already linked; it never creates products, uses plan quota or publishes anything.

With store to catalogue, instant updates bring a store change over within seconds: switch them on for WooCommerce on this page (DPP Shield registers signed webhooks on the store); on Shopify they come through the DPP Shield app. A product deleted in the store is unlinked, and the catalogue product stays.

Passport links on product pages

DPP Shield writes each linked product's published passport link onto the store product: in Shopify as the metafields dpp_shield.passport_url, qr_url and digital_link, shown by the DPP Shield theme block; in WooCommerce as product meta, shown by the DPP Shield WordPress plugin (download it from this page, then Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin). Links are refreshed every five minutes when a passport changes, and only published passports are linked; a recalled passport stays linked and its public page states the recall.

The passport itself stays on DPP Shield: the store carries the link, not the passport data.

Shopify and WooCommerce sync (/products/sync)

Store connections bring listings into the catalogue or send catalogue changes out as draft listings. Linked identities are reused so repeated syncs do not create duplicates.

Connect the store with credentials issued for the intended Shopify or WooCommerce account, then inspect link and conflict status before running a broad sync. Repeated imports should reuse linked product identities. Review per-product outcomes because store listings and DPP publication are independent workflows.

Store credentials are sensitive and belong only in their dedicated connection fields.

Controls and options

  • Choose Shopify or WooCommerce, enter the store domain and the requested API credentials, then Connect store.
  • Inspect the connection and linked-product status before running import or export.
  • Search and select products for a targeted export when the connection is ready.
  • Review per-product results and conflicts; a sync is not a passport publication.
