Produce a product carbon footprint report

Compose the issuer declaration with supplier data, cross-check the two, and track a baseline over time.

Compose the issuer declaration with supplier data, cross-check the two, and track a baseline over time.

Screening versus reporting

The screening estimate is a deterministic calculation from generic factors, useful for a first conversation and clearly flagged as non-verified.

The carbon report is built from what your records actually declare. It states its basis, its method version and its limitations, and it is an internal working document until someone qualified verifies it.

One rule prevents double counting

An issuer declaration describes the whole product, so it is the total. Supplier declarations are the evidence behind that total, and they are reported separately.

Only when no issuer declaration exists do tier-one supplier declarations become the total - and then the report says so. Declared upstream values (tier two and beyond) are never added on top.

The cross-check

When both an issuer and a tier-one declaration exist, the report states what percentage of the declared footprint the suppliers account for and gives a verdict. If suppliers declare materially more than the issuer, it is reported as an incomplete declaration with the missing input called out rather than silently trusting either number.

Baselines and trends

A baseline fixes the footprint you measure future versions against, with an optional reduction target. Every later report shows absolute and percentage movement, the delta against the previous version and an explicit on-track verdict.

A fresh baseline claims zero reduction - it never flatters itself. Clear a baseline explicitly; nothing overwrites it silently.

Issuing and the portfolio

Issuing stores an immutable report with the figures, the data-quality snapshot and the full payload; re-issuing supersedes the previous one, and any report can be revoked. The CSV export is a flat field-and-value sheet a reviewer can paste into a spreadsheet.

The portfolio view covers every passport in scope with declared totals split by source, baselines improving or regressing and the biggest contributors.

How does the public passport show a carbon figure?

Next to a declared carbon figure, the public passport shows how it was produced: the calculation methodology, the life-cycle boundary, the functional unit, the data source and the verification status. Fill these in the passport's carbon footprint declaration (batteries, textiles and metals). Anything missing is shown as not stated, and a figure without a verifier is presented as self-declared - a bare number is never shown as if it were verified.

A screening report from Carbon footprint is a useful source: record it as the data source with its methodology and boundary, and mark the figure self-declared unless an independent verifier has checked it.

Carbon and LCA (/lca)

The carbon workspace combines portfolio rollups, product-level reports, bill-of-material estimates and measured inputs.

Choose a product and inspect declared versus supplier footprints and their system boundaries before comparing totals. A material-weight estimate can be useful for identifying gaps, but its factors and uncertainty must be shown with the result. Review measured energy inputs and supporting evidence before issuing a report or reusing the figure publicly.

Supplier and issuer footprints are shown in context and are not blindly added together.

Controls and options

  • Choose a passport and Open report to inspect declared and supplier carbon data, boundaries and conflicts.
  • Enter material and weight lines, manufacturing country and optional measured electricity, then Estimate carbon.
  • Read assumptions and uncertainty in Estimation result before using a draft number.
  • Issue or export a report only when the declaration and its evidence have been reviewed.
