Build a furniture product passport

Furniture is an ESPR priority group without an adopted act yet: what the furniture pack checks today - substances, formaldehyde and deforestation-free wood.

DPP Shield editorial team · Updated:

Furniture is a priority product group in the ESPR working plan, with a delegated act indicatively planned for 2028 - not yet an application date. Today's checks in DPP Shield cover REACH substance information, the formaldehyde limit for furniture and the EUDR due-diligence statement for wooden furniture in scope.

What applies today

No furniture passport is mandatory yet: the Commission's working plan indicates 2028 for the furniture delegated act under the ESPR.

What applies now: REACH, including the information duty for substances of very high concern and the restriction on formaldehyde released from furniture (0.062 mg/m³ under the restriction's test conditions), and the EU Deforestation Regulation for wooden furniture within its commodity and CN-code scope, which the pack treats as applying from 30 December 2026 (30 June 2027 for micro and small operators).

What the pack checks

DPP Shield validates a passport against the bundled EU-FURNITURE pack, which is a draft readiness pack, plus the ESPR core checks every category shares: identifiers, the economic operator, the data carrier, substances of concern and passport availability. Required findings block publication; findings to check are flagged for review. Each finding in the console names its rule and source.

Required - blocks publication

  • SVHC information above 0.1 % w/w, with the SCIP number.

What it flags for review

These do not block publication, but resolve each one before the passport goes public.

Check - flagged for review

  • Manufacturer identity.
  • The EUDR due-diligence statement reference for wooden furniture in scope.
  • Formaldehyde emission within 0.062 mg/m³.

Evidence to collect

Attach these in Documents and link them to the passport, or request them from suppliers.

Typical evidence

  • Timber certificates (for example FSC or PEFC) with their numbers.
  • EUDR due-diligence statement reference numbers from the EU information system.
  • Formaldehyde emission test reports for wood-based panels.
  • Flame-retardant declarations from foam and textile suppliers.
  • Assembly and care instructions.

Build the passport step by step

  1. Create the product with the category Furniture - in Products, by CSV import or from a connected store.
  2. Open DPPs and choose Create passport: the form shows the furniture fields together with the shared blocks (identifiers, manufacturer, materials, substances of concern, data carrier and passport availability).
  3. Record product type, dimensions, weight and wood species, with the timber certification and its certificate number.
  4. Ask panel and foam suppliers for formaldehyde and flame-retardant declarations.
  5. Add expected lifetime and warranty only where you stand behind them.
  6. Attach the evidence in Documents and send supplier requests for anything you cannot support yourself.
  7. Run Validate EU and work through the findings until no required finding is left.
  8. Preview the public page, redact commercially sensitive fields, then publish.

Before you publish

Because the bundled packs are drafts, publishing needs an accountable override approved by a second owner or administrator until your platform operator activates a legally reviewed pack. The readiness score is not a legal assessment: confirm the obligations that apply to your product with your compliance adviser.

Collecting this data now means the furniture delegated act becomes a matter of adding fields, not starting over.
