Build a tyre product passport
The tyre label and EPREL registration that apply today, and the data to prepare before the ESPR tyre act.
DPP Shield editorial team · Updated:
Tyres are an ESPR priority group without an adopted passport act yet. What applies today is Regulation (EU) 2020/740: the tyre label with fuel-efficiency, wet-grip and noise classes, and EPREL registration. DPP Shield's tyre pack checks the label classes and flags the EPREL registration.
What applies today
Regulation (EU) 2020/740 requires the tyre label - fuel efficiency (rolling resistance), wet grip and external rolling noise, with snow and ice grip where applicable - and registration in EPREL before the tyre is placed on the EU market. The ESPR tyre passport depends on a delegated act that is not yet adopted.
What the pack checks
DPP Shield validates a passport against the bundled EU-TYRES pack, which is a draft readiness pack, plus the ESPR core checks every category shares: identifiers, the economic operator, the data carrier, substances of concern and passport availability. Required findings block publication; findings to check are flagged for review. Each finding in the console names its rule and source.
Required - blocks publication
- The fuel-efficiency (rolling resistance) class.
- The wet grip class.
What it flags for review
These do not block publication, but resolve each one before the passport goes public.
Check - flagged for review
- Manufacturer identity.
- EPREL registration with the tyre label reference.
- External rolling noise within a plausible range for a road tyre.
Evidence to collect
Attach these in Documents and link them to the passport, or request them from suppliers.
Typical evidence
- Tyre label data and the EPREL registration number.
- Test reports for rolling resistance, wet grip and noise.
- Snow (3PMSF) and ice grip evidence where claimed.
- Recycled rubber content evidence where declared.
Build the passport step by step
- Create the product with the category Tyres - in Products, by CSV import or from a connected store.
- Open DPPs and choose Create passport: the form shows the tyres fields together with the shared blocks (identifiers, manufacturer, materials, substances of concern, data carrier and passport availability).
- Record the tyre class, size designation, load index and speed rating.
- Copy the label classes exactly as registered in EPREL.
- Record whether the tyre is retreadable.
- Attach the evidence in Documents and send supplier requests for anything you cannot support yourself.
- Run Validate EU and work through the findings until no required finding is left.
- Preview the public page, redact commercially sensitive fields, then publish.
Before you publish
Because the bundled packs are drafts, publishing needs an accountable override approved by a second owner or administrator until your platform operator activates a legally reviewed pack. The readiness score is not a legal assessment: confirm the obligations that apply to your product with your compliance adviser.
Prepared label and material data carry over when the tyre delegated act defines the passport.
