Furniture digital product passport

Materials, sourcing, durability, repair, disassembly and recycled-content data.

Furniture DPP preparation should connect materials and component suppliers with durability, repair, disassembly, recycled content, substances and end-of-life routes.

Regulatory position

Regulations and applicability

The rules below do different jobs. Some are enforceable sector requirements, some establish the DPP architecture, and some announce future product measures. Each card explains the distinction.

Planned measure01

ESPR and Energy Labelling Working Plan 2025-2030

What it covers
Furniture, including mattresses, is a priority final product in the 2025-2030 ESPR working plan, with 2028 as the indicative adoption year for a measure.
What it means for the record
Prepare material, durability, repair, disassembly and end-of-life data, but do not label the future field list as final.
DPP framework02

Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR)

What it covers
Allows delegated acts to set product-specific ecodesign and information requirements, including a DPP.
What it means for the record
Keep the model extensible across furniture types and separate verified source data from calculated or supplier-declared values.
Current requirement03

Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (General Product Safety)

What it covers
Applies general product-safety duties to consumer products that are not governed by more specific safety provisions.
What it means for the record
Link manufacturer, responsible-person, warning, recall and traceability records where the product falls within scope.

Questions teams ask

Is a furniture DPP mandatory today?

Not under ESPR alone. Furniture is in the 2025-2030 working plan, but a delegated act must establish the detailed scope, requirements and date.

What data structure should a Furniture passport use?

Organize at least four governed blocks: Product and component identity; Wood, metal, textile, foam and coating composition; Durability, repairability and spare-part availability; Disassembly, recycled content and end-of-life routes. Every value should retain its source, effective date, product level and review status.

Which evidence should support the Furniture passport?

The evidence file should cover Supplier material declarations; Durability and safety test reports; Sourcing and chain-of-custody records; Repair and disassembly instructions. A public view can cite approved evidence without exposing restricted files or confidential data.
