Construction products digital product passport

Performance, DoP and EPD data, materials, service life, reuse and deconstruction.

A construction-product passport should connect product identity and declaration of performance and conformity with technical documentation, safety information, environmental performance and identifiers in a record designed to interoperate with BIM.

Regulatory position

Regulations and applicability

The rules below do different jobs. Some are enforceable sector requirements, some establish the DPP architecture, and some announce future product measures. Each card explains the distinction.

DPP framework01

Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 (Construction Products), Articles 75-79

What it covers
Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 creates the construction DPP framework. Articles 75-79 define the system, content categories, identifiers, registry relationship and access principles.
What it means for the record
Design the record around the product type, declaration of performance and conformity, technical documentation and environmental data, with BIM interoperability in mind.
DPP framework02

Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR)

What it covers
Provides the horizontal DPP architecture on which the construction system must be based and interoperable.
What it means for the record
Keep identifiers, data carriers, access rights and machine-readable exchange compatible with the wider EU DPP model.
Data to structure

Recommended passport structure

Organize the record in stable blocks so identity, technical facts, evidence and access rules can change without losing provenance.

01

Identity and scope

Defines exactly which model, batch or item the record describes.

Data to structureProduct type, intended use and unique identifiers
Supported by

Declaration of performance and conformity

Primary data ownerProduct manufacturer
02

Composition and origin

Connects components, materials, suppliers and facilities.

Data to structureDeclared performance and conformity information
Supported by

Primary data ownerSuppliers and facilities
03

Performance and impact

Holds measured, calculated and declared product attributes with their basis.

Data to structureEnvironmental lifecycle indicators and material composition
Supported by

Primary data ownerCompliance and testing
04

Lifecycle and traceability

Maintains repair, use, custody and end-of-life information over time.

A practical readiness workflow

01

Scope

Identify the exact product, economic-operator role, market and applicable legislation.

02

Map

Map authoritative source records to stable product, operator and facility identifiers.

03

Validate

Review completeness, consistency, access rights and the evidence behind each claim.

04

Publish

Approve a versioned public view while protecting restricted and personal data.

Questions teams ask

Is the construction DPP system already fully specified?

No. Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 sets the framework and content categories, while delegated acts establish the operational construction DPP system.

How does BIM fit?

The Regulation requires the construction DPP system to be compatible with the ESPR framework without compromising interoperability with Building Information Modelling.

What data structure should a Construction products passport use?

Organize at least four governed blocks: Product type, intended use and unique identifiers; Declared performance and conformity information; Environmental lifecycle indicators and material composition; Instructions, safety information and service life. Every value should retain its source, effective date, product level and review status.

Which evidence should support the Construction products passport?

The evidence file should cover Declaration of performance and conformity; Technical documentation and assessment records; EPD or lifecycle-assessment source files; Installation, maintenance and deconstruction guidance. A public view can cite approved evidence without exposing restricted files or confidential data.
