EU Battery Passport Data Checklist

A field-by-field checklist of the data an EU battery passport is expected to carry, with the access group and legal basis for each, to prepare before the 18 February 2027 deadline.

From 18 February 2027, each LMT battery, electric-vehicle battery and industrial battery above 2 kWh placed on the EU market must carry a battery passport. This checklist groups the expected data fields by access level under Annex XIII of the Batteries Regulation, so teams can gather values and evidence before the deadline. Confirm the exact list against the consolidated Regulation and its implementing act.

Expected EU battery passport data fields, grouped by access level (Annex XIII). Last reviewed 30 September 2026.

Who needs a battery passport, and when?

From 18 February 2027, LMT batteries, electric-vehicle batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market or put into service need a battery passport under Article 77. Confirm categories, thresholds and exclusions against the consolidated Regulation for your product.

How is the data split by access?

Annex XIII separates information that is public from information available only to notified bodies, authorities and people with a legitimate interest. Teams therefore need both the data and a deliberate access and redaction policy, not just a spreadsheet of values.

How should a team use this checklist?

Assign an owner per field, map each value to its source and evidence, and mark gaps openly. Keep the identifier and carrier persistent, and review public and restricted views before publishing so nothing restricted is exposed.

Frequently asked questions

Is all battery passport data public?

No. Annex XIII defines public information and information limited to notified bodies, authorities and those with a legitimate interest, so redaction between views is essential.

When is the battery passport mandatory?

From 18 February 2027 for the battery categories named in Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

Does this checklist replace the Regulation?

No. It is preparation guidance. The binding field list comes from the Regulation and its implementing act, which you should confirm for your product.
